While “pulling weeds” that I had allowed to grow in MY garden, I thought about the amount of effort and energy it now took to dig up these deeply rooted weeds.
Weeds can represent the issues of life that just don’t seem to go away…loneliness, sadness, depression, a bad relationship, constant debt, and lack. While working in my garden, I found that some weeds came up easily, with little effort. One pull uprooted them. These weeds did not have enough time to settle deeply under the earth. Then, there were those weeds that took some digging and uncovering through the use of special gardening tools. Last, there were those roots that would not come up, no matter how much pulling and no matter how many special gardening tools that I used. These weeds required an expert landscaper who was skilled in getting down deeply enough to get rid of them and restore the earth.
What do we do when we continue to experience issues of life that impact our day, our mood, our motivation to get out of the bed? What do we do? Do we think – “Oh I can handle this on my own” or are we too embarrassed to let anyone in? Some sad moments in our life can be “pulled up” by running a mile or sitting in the sunshine for 20 minutes, or by simply talking with a trusted friend or family member. And then some issues in life will require an expert – counselor, therapist who can help us dig deeply enough to uncover the roots, address the root issues, and ultimately pull them out of our lives without destroying the earth (our hearts and minds).
What will you do to move past the trauma, the hurt, the disappointment? What will you do? I urge you to call the professional or the trusted friend to help you uproot the weeds out of your garden, uncover and address the deeply rooted issues of life. They don’t belong there. They are trespassing in your field. They aren’t meant to stay.
